This resource guide provides supplemental resources to accompany the Saint Louis Art Museum’s “Arts in the Basic Curriculum” (ABC) program. ABC is a multi-visit tour program for student groups that offers six themed tours to choose from. This resource guide provides examples of artworks incorporated into the themed tours as well as resources to help teachers learn more about themes, artists, or artworks in order to deepen connections to classroom learning.
These resources can be used to learn more about each tour theme before a visit; to help inform post-visit activities; or just generally to explore the themes and possible connections between works of art at the Museum and classroom curricula.
Themes in the guide can be explored in any order. Within each theme you will find images of related artworks, selected books, videos, and web resources curated by Saint Louis Art Museum educators. All selected resources are intended to support learning related to these artworks, artists, and themes. The General Resources page includes additional links to teaching strategies, research databases, and books that might be useful for engaging in further research on related topics. We encourage you to explore the resource pages at whatever pace feels comfortable. These resources are primarily intended for use by educators in preparing lessons and Museum visits. Some elements may be explored together with students. We encourage teachers to preview all materials before implementing directly into classroom lessons.
